Happy Juneteenth To Our St. James Family
During the month of June, as we celebrate that everyone belongs in the life of the church, we’re also in the midst of exciting restoration work—from scaffolding and stucco to stained glass and rooftop crowns. Jon+ shares what’s unfolding and what’s being rebuilt—inside and out.
Celebrating Justin Baker-Rojas
On Sunday, June 29 we will bid farewell to Justin Baker-Rojas, a long-time innovator here at St. James. He designed our website many years ago, making a model for other churches. He offered an elegant branding scheme for our church publications, designed our newsletter, turns out lively social media content, and, heroically, brought us into the world of live streaming during the pandemic. Not only that, but Justin sang for many years with the Choir of Saint James, and is currently putting the finishing touches on a documentary about our choir! Join us for a special blessing and fancy coffee hour to celebrate Justin’s many ministries at St. James.
Men's Group Retreat
CHANGE OF DATE! The Men’s Group is holding a full-weekend retreat the first weekend in August (rather than in July), and there’s still time to join us! It will now be the weekend of August 1-3 at the Mary and Joseph retreat center in Rancho Palos Verdes (https://www.maryjoseph.org). The cost is $425 for a shared room and $545 for a single room. This registration fee covers lodging Friday and Saturday evening and all meals from Friday's dinner until Sunday's lunch. A $100 deposit can be made on the church’s website, under “giving." Please let us know of your interest as soon as possible, but by June 30 at the latest. You can email Jim Stewart at jestew@ucla.edu or alanheppel@icloud.com. We look forward to your fellowship!
The St. James Pride Month Book Discussion
Please join vestry member Matt Wallace and Father Jon Feuss in the vestry room after the 10:30 service for the final meeting in June as we make our way through From Sin to Amazing Grace: Discovering the Queer Christ by Fr. Patrick Cheng. For centuries, LGBTQ+ people have been called sinful. Fr. Cheng's book asks how, in light of that painful history, LGBTQ+ Christians can reclaim the doctrines of sin and God's amazing grace in their spiritual lives. We will also discuss the joys and challenges of being an LGBTQ+ Christian. All parishioners are welcome at these discussions. Please email Fr. Jon Feuss at jfeuss@stjla.org if you would like to participate.
Save the Date
July 13: Parish Quarterly Meeting
On Sunday, July 13 we will be having our next quarterly meeting to update you on all the progress with the St. James Parish. Join us upstairs in Hampton Hall following the 10:30AM service.
