Gathering Together

The St. James Young Adults all had a great time last Sunday night at the young adult Cinco de Mayo gathering.

On Friday, May 2, St. James School held their annual gala, this year in celebration of our beloved Fr. Aidan Koh, who is retiring at the end of June.

Choral Evensong This Sunday at 4:15pm

Close out the season with a luminous Choral Evensong at St. James in-the-City, led by James Buonemani and the Choir of Saint James. This final service features a rich and reflective program:

James Buonemani: Preces & Responses (Westminster Abbey)
Herbert Sumsion: Canticles in G Major
Edward Elgar: Lux Aeterna (a choral setting by John Cameron of Elgar’s Nimrod from his Enigma Variations)
Francisco Guerrero: Trahe me post te

Classical Sundays at Six Concludes May 18

In 2019, as LACMA began a major, multi-year renovation, we at St. James offered to become the new home of the classical music program known as LACMA Sundays Live, a cultural institution here in Los Angeles. For the past half a decade, under the direction of Bill Vestal, in coordination with our own Music Director Canon Jim Buonemani, the program has resided here at St. James, under the new name Classical Sundays at Six. During this time, week after week we have enjoyed world-class music performed by a host of brilliant artists from around the region and the globe. Even during the pandemic, we continued to enjoy live-streamed concerts from our (then empty) church, the performances becoming a lifeline to all of us who love music.

On May 18, at 6pm, we will celebrate the culmination of this remarkable program's residency at St. James with one final concert. Famed violinist Philip Levy brings with him the Capitol Ensemble and Friends, who will perform Beethoven's Septet in E-flat Major, Op. 20.

Please join us for this exciting evening. And although it is sad to say goodbye, we will continue to enjoy the sacred music of evensong services. What's more, our acclaimed International Laureates Organ series resumes in 2026. Look for more musical offerings as well when we return to our church space post-renovation.

A Complete Redo

The Rev. Jon Feuss
