Reflections on Mary

I am so excited for you to join me for a three-session class on Mary. In the first hour (Wed, Dec. 4) we will look at the places Mary appears in the New Testament. Then (on Dec. 11) we will trace how Mary’s role took shape in Catholicism and later the Protestant denominations as well, with a special focus on our own Episcopal tradition. Finally, (on Dec. 18) we’ll explore the powerful range of what Mary can mean for us today.

If you like, before next Wednesday’s class, take a look at Mary’s appearances in the New Testament.

Classes will be held on zoom on Wednesdays, Dec. 4, 11, 18 from 7-8PM

Important Notice:

Friends,

Sadly, text and email scams are a fact of life these days. If you ever receive a text or email, seemingly from me or Father Jon, saying that we're in a meeting but need you to do us an urgent favor by buying gift cards or sending money via Zelle, please do not respond to the message - it is a scam. A good tip is to check the email address and if it is not from our stjla.org email addresses, it is not from us (e.g. pastor292@gmail.com). We will never text or email you asking for money or gift cards.

Downloadable Advent Calendar

Here is a great way to involve the entire family as we start the season of preparation and Advent.

Lessons and Carols Seating

While we have reached our indoor seating capacity for Advent Lessons and Carols, we are pleased to offer (weather permitting) Advent Lessons and Carols Under the Stars - an outdoor Lessons and Carols experience in our beloved courtyard. The doors of the parish hall will be opened to allow you to hear the readings and the choir, and a television will be set up to ensure all can see the service. And to help you really get in the holiday spirit, cider and hot chocolate will be available throughout the service to keep you warm and your spirits bright.

Parking Changes

We want to ensure that church members with accessibility issues have an easy time parking for services. For this reason, we will be reserving a certain number of spaces in our small lot on Saint Andrews Place with blue cones to show that those spots are solely for the use of members with accessibility issues. These spots will be located on the school side of the parking lot. This will only be for the 10:30 AM service. At other services, the parking lot will be available for all.

Outdoor Church School

Now that we are worshiping in the parish hall, we are offering something new for children and families. Each week during the 10:30 AM service, our church school cart will be parked in the courtyard loaded up with crayons, markers, paper, crafts, and most importantly, snacks!

One requirement though: parents must always stay with their children.

Stewardship Update

Your commitment to what you will be able to give next year here at St. James is so important. With your pledge, you are helping to support God’s work in this beloved community. So far, we have received 154 pledges for a total of $738,399. The goal we need to reach is $993,224. If you have not yet pledged, please consider pledging today by using the button below.
